Rwanda Gorilla Trek

Since living in the ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’, I have had the opportunity to scratch a few items off my bucket list. I have come to the conclusion that one should not miss out on the sensational opportunity to visit Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park consisting of mountain forest and home to the six Virunga Volcanoes and the world famous mountain gorillas. All I can say is that it was a magnificent experience.

We walked for about an hour uphill through farm land to the rock wall that is the start of the park. From there it’s a rough hike for another 45 minutes through bamboo thickets and stinging nettle until suddenly you reach the trekkers and around the corner waits the Titus group. Now there are 10 habituated groups and only a limited number of 8 people are allowed to track a gorilla group per day.
